She fought a brown belt & a black belt competitor! She bravely faced her first brown belt opponent & although it was a great fight, she lost. Then she went on to beat a seasoned black with multiple world & national titles.
Great job to both of our KKG athletes who competed!

KKG Makes History Oct.26, 2019
For the first time in KKG history we competed at a USA Karate/WKF event. The USA National Karate-Do Federation is the USA Olympic team’s federation.
The Southern CA Karate-Do Championship Tournament was held in Whittier, CA @ Graves Middle School. Sat. Oct.26th, 2019
Salomay McCullough (Elite 14-15 yr.)
3rd place - Kumite
The tournament is organized so that the oldest & youngest divisions compete first. The Elite 14-15 yr. old division didn’t begin Kumite until after 2:30pm. They used a bracketing system & Salomay had the third fight which she lost 2 to 1. The girl Salomay lost to fell to the eventual 1st place athlete. They rematched Salomay with her first opponent. Salomay beat her opponent, the second time, 2 to 0, which ended up making 3rd place a tie with another athlete.
This organization, requires special protective gear, a special kata gi, & special Kumite gi. The red & blue belts worn by the athletes, as shown in the picture are only used for scoring two opposing competitors, which is common in MMA & boxing. The belt colors do not signify belt rank, as all athletes in the Elite division are black belts.
